PEDS-02b (PEDS) Pediatric AM Concurrent Sessions #2: Methods to Overcome Engraftment Barriers in Pediatric Transplantation

Track: Pediatric BMT Program
Thursday, February 2, 2012: 10:30 AM-12:00 PM
Douglas D (Manchester Grand Hyatt)
Chair:
Michael Richard Verneris, MD
Summary:

Despite advances in novel stem cell sources and conditioning regimen, our ability to overcome engraftment barriers remains a significant challenge in pediatric transplantation. Novel experimental models to enhance hematopoietic recovery will be examined in this session. In addition, the role of reduced intensity/ umbilical cord blood transplantation for non-malignant disorders, and the potential applications of NK cell immune-therapy for high risk malignancies will be examined.
